The client part was a blast protective rotor craft pilot seat bucket made from Kevlar/ceramic composite panels. Inconsistences in the seat bucket manufacturing process can lead to the risk of delamination between layers, which weakens the finished seat panel and compromises pilot safety.
AMS developed a contact Ultrasonic UT Inspection used to examine seat panels for delamination and other potential flaws.
- The non-conforming panels were detected and contained, ensuring the integrity of the blast protective structure of the rotor craft pilot seat bucket.
- Cost savings were realized by AMS providing non-destructive testing, instead of the client trying to tackle it in-house.
